Xiaomi Moan has released a new 6″ e-ink color e-reader called the Pantone 6 on the 20th of May. It uses the latest Kaleido 3 display and has 300 PPI B/W and 150 for color with 32 levels of frontlight. They’ve also added an alumino-silicate glass cover with an electroplated AG film process to remove glare and provide more scratch resistance. They are also using MRD technology which they claim increases the color density of the display. The CPU is an RK3566 chipset. It has a generous 4 GB of Ram and 64 GB of internal storage and runs on Android 11.
It is powered by a 1800 mAh battery which the company boasts will give enough juice for 30 days of standby. It weighs just 152 grams and is 7.25 mm thin. For now it is only available in China from the JD store for 999 yuan which is about 137 dollars. It’ll soon be available in AliExpress and will likely cost around 150$ which is pretty good for a color e-reader. But I feel 6 inch is too small for color as you can’t really use it for comics. But since this is android you can install other apps on it and use it for other purposes such as web comics etc.
Speaking of 6 inch color; PocketBook is also developing a Verse Color. No details about it’s specs yet but it will most likely be similar to the Verse Pro but with a Kaleido 3 e-ink color display. But we will have to wait and see for Pocketbook to release the full details of the device. Subscribe to stay updated on the latest e-ink news.
