After four long years Remarkable has announced a new E-ink note-taking tablet called the Paper Pro. The tablet will be 11.8 inches and yes it will be in color. But unlike other e-ink tablets that use Kaleido 3 display this one uses Canvas Color. Which is essentially a modified version of the Gallery 3 from E-ink.
It’s incredible what Remarkable has been able to achieve with the Gallery 3 display, as the past devices were very disappointing. Even Good e-reader made a video about it a few months ago declaring its end. Am glad that that’s not true now.
The Paper Pro uses a 1.8 Ghz quad-core CPU and has 2 GB of Ram with 64 GB of internal storage. The RAM may seem small but unlike other tablets from Boox and Bigme this won’t be running Android. But rather a straightforward light Custom Linux operating system called the reMarakable OS. So the 2 gigabytes will be more than enough.
Another great news is that it will have frontlight and the display has 229 PPI which is way more than the 150 on the Kaleido 3 devices. The battery is a generous 5030 mAh; which promises 14 days of regular use and 90 days on standby mode. One gripe I have about this new device is that the files supported are the same- PDF and ePub. I wish they’d allow more like CBZ so that consumers can enjoy reading comics on this beautiful big color display.
It weighs 525 grams and is 5.1mm thin. The Paper Pro is available for order from the Remarkable website for 579$. And you get free shipping if you live in the United States.
