Bigme has released their HiBreak B/W and color e-ink phones. These are the first e-ink android phones since 2022 when Hisense released the A9. Both are available from their official store for 219$ and 249$ and you can use the code webtoolo for a discount.
Bigme has released the full details of their e-ink phones and I am a bit disappointed. They will be available for order from their official store on 31 May at 9:30 pm Beijing time which is about 4 hours from the time am making this article. So by the time you read this it’ll probably be ready for purchase.
My disappointment is on the screen. The Black and white will be 275 PPI, and while I wish it was 300, 275 is acceptable. I don’t think it would make a big difference. But, the color is only 91.9 PPI, which is a big letdown. When I first heard the prices I was surprised at how cheap they were. Well, now we know how this is possible. They’re probably using Kaleido 1 displays, the same ones used by Hisense A5C in 2020. The a5c had the same 5.84 inch screen size too.
But Bigme claims that their xColor management algorithm increases the contrast by 18%, color brightness by 25% and the text blackness by 35%. So we’ll have to wait and see how the display looks in person.
Except for the display both the phones have the same specs. They’ll both run on Android 11 with 6 GB of ram and 128 GB of internal storage with an option to expand upto 1 TB. However, judging from the info they’ve given, it seems there’s room for either a microSD card or a sim card. I hope I am wrong though.
The screen is 5.84″ with 36 levels of front-light. The battery is 3300mAh and it has the usual features like WiFi, Bluetooth and USB-C with microphone and speakers. It also has a 13 MP rear camera and 5MP at the front. It is 8.6mm thin and weighs at 170 grams. You can see the full specs of the Bigme HiBreak Color here.
