So we have some very good news for e-ink users, the previous leader of e-ink phones is back in the market. Yes, after it’s departure from the e-ink in 2022 Hisense has decided to come back. They are scheduled to release a new version of the Hisense Hi-Reader in the first quarter of next year.
And then in mid 2026 they will launch a new e-ink phone with 5G called the A10. Unlike in 2020-2021 when the company dominated the market, this time there are a few competitors. But none of them have got it properly right the way Hisense did.
The closest is Bigme since they have a fully functional actual phone but their software is not the best. Onyx Boox and ViWoods have also released phones but it’s sim card can be used for internet and WiFi only. That means no cellular calling. So it will be exciting to finally have a proper solid e-ink phone soon.
As for the Hi-Reader there are som many alternatives from Xiaomi, Boox, and others. But Hisense has always delivered solid devices that rarely malfunction, so it will be interesting to see how it performs in sales in the current market.
